Is Boycotting Israel Appropriate? A Palestinian Perspective

Bookmark and Share Share

A serious debate is ramping up over the way forward to a lasting peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. Some favor the status quo, others favor aggressive negotiations between the parties with the United States applying consistent pressure to both sides, but another strategy, called the Global BDS movement, is gaining traction in the U.S. and Europe.

BDS stands for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions. It’s a movement of individuals, institutions and organizations that want to apply economic pressure on Israel to end its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.

Omar Barghouti is a founding member of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel. And he’s a driving force behind the BDS Movement.
