Two Chicagoans arrived at the Daley Center at 2:30 a.m. and left hours later as the first couple married in Cook County in 2012.

Twenty-seven-year-old Diana Basner and 26-year-old Jeremy Nichols were married by Cook County Clerk David Orr, who's wed the first couple of the year since 1991.

They'd been together for five years, and they were married shortly after Orr's office opened at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. A Cook County judge waived the standard 24-hour waiting period.

Being the first couple comes with some perks. The gifts the couple will receive include a weekend for two at Chicago's Palmer House Hilton, dinner and flowers.
