Society of Midland Authors
The Society of Midland Authors represents published authors from 12 states in the Midwest. Founded in 1915 by a group of writers including Hamlin Garland, Harriet Monroe and Vachel Lindsay, the not-for-profit organization gives annual awards for the best books by authors from this region. Six times a year, the Society hosts lectures and panel discussions. The events, which are free, take place at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in October, November, January, February, March and April.
