Wednesday Foodie Forecast: Wine & Chocolate

On Tuesday Feb. 9, Salute Wine Bar‚ & Cafƒ© and Vosges Haut Chocolat have partnered to present The 8 Deadly Sins, a monthly wine tasting of Casa di Vino. Hosted by Salute's Sommelier Loren Hall and Vosges' head chocolatier Katie Ozinga, the event will feature four different wines and chocolates including:

  • Spanish‚ La Rioja Tempranillo paired with‚ Chef Pascal (kirsch, a dried Traverse City, Michigan cherry & 65% cacao dark chocolate)
     
  • French‚ Bordeaux paired with‚ Red Fire (ancho chilies, Ceylon cinnamon & 65% cacao Venezuelan dark chocolate)
     
  • California‚ Cabernet Sauvignon paired with‚ Tlan Nacu (Mexican vanilla bean + 65% cacao Venezuelan dark chocolate)
     
  • Italian‚ Barolo paired with‚ The Rooster (shaped like an Italian Alp, 66% cacao bittersweet chocolate blended with Taleggio cheese, organic walnuts and vanilla bean)

The event begins at 7 p.m., costs $29 per person and includes a gift bag filled with gift certificates from Salute and Vosges. You can reserve your spot at 312-664-0100.

Next Monday, Feb 8 at 6 p.m. Bluegrassin Highland Park will host a five-course Mardi Gras Wine Dinner with Roy Cecchetti of Line 39 and Redtree Wines.

Chef Warren Jones and his team of Chef Clay Erickson, Chef Ken Levendoski and Chef Diane Sandler have a prepared a menu which includes:

-        Shucked Oysters with Champagne & Caviar

-        Classic Bayou Remoulade Salad

-        New Orleans Seafood Trio Soup

-        Louisiana Blackened Redfish

-        Oyster Stuffed Quail

-        Banana Chimi

The dinner costs $100 per person with all proceeds going to the late Chef Dave Teichman. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 847-831-0595
