Photo Slideshow: City Provisions farm dinner at Seedling Orchard

July 19, 2010

Since I was in L.A. this weekend, I sent intrepid intern Kate Bernot to the City Provisions Farm Dinner on Saturday. ‚ She brought back these great pictures, which really made me long for a trip to the country. City Provisions will host a few more farm dinners this summer: on July 28 and August 25 at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, on August 21 at Faith's Farm in Bonfield, IL, on September 11 at Heritage Prairie Market and Farm in Elburn, IL and on September 25 at Rushing Waters Trout Farm in Palmyra, WI. Tickets are $175, including all food, drink, tours, tax, tip and transportation. Call (773) 293-2489 for reservations, or e-mail supperclub@cityprovisions.com.

Chef Cleetus Friedman and the crew at City Provisions are also launching their first retail deli at the end of this month. Slated to open July 30, City Provisions Delicatessen will be an outlet for local farms, offering fresh meat, local cheeses and sustainably prepared food. The deli will include both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as take-out items. During the summer, the deli will capitalize on its location near the Ravenswood Metra station by offering "Ravinia baskets" for diners to pick up on their way to the festival. The deli will be open for breakfast, lunch and for prepared dinner options. All meat will come from a 200-mile radius of Chicago and all butchering will be done on-premises. The deli, an inviting and bright brick-and-steel storefront, is located at 1818 West Wilson Avenue.

Seedling Fruits can be found at the Evanston Farmers' Market, Lincoln Square Market, Green City Market, West Side Market, Wicker Park Market and online.

Dark Horse Brewing Company of Marshall, Michigan has recently expanded into Chicago and can be found on tap at the Hopleaf Bar and The Fountainhead, as well as bottled at finer beer and wine stores.
