Video: Granville Public Market a foodie mecca

August 28, 2010

It's bad enough Chicago doesn't have a yearround market, at least like they do in Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Toronto.‚  But when I saw the bustling Public Market on Granville Island, in an old fishing supply warehouse in the heart of Vancouver, I realized - yet again - that Chicago is light years away from obtaining "major foodie star status" until we get one of these.‚  Christ, there were people making old-school bagels, fruit tarts, sushi, soup, you name it; then there were vendors of all stripes - sausage, prosciutto, exotic produce - it was culinary boner time and all I could think was, "when the hell are we gonna get one of these at home?"
