Rural areas may suffer with defunding of CPB and NPR

Greg Petrowich believes that cutting federal funds could harm areas like his in Carbondale, IL.

Though many think NPR could live without government funding, that may not be the case for many stations that serve small cities and rural areas. If funds from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting were to go away, it is likely that some of these stations would cease operations.

To find out more, Eight Forty-Eight spoke to Greg Petrowich. He’s the Executive Director for WSIU – the public broadcasting station in Carbondale, Illinois. He also serves on NPR’s Board of Directors.
