Sirota believes that decisions made in the '80s help explain the world today.

If the '80s is your destination you won’t actually need a DeLorean to get there. Just open up the new book by David Sirota Back to Our Future: How the 1980s Explain the World We Live In Now.

The senior editor of In These Times boldly goes where many might fear to tread - the decade that brought us Madonna and the Gipper. And what he finds isn’t always pretty. Eight Forty-Eight's Alison Cuddy spoke to Sirota, and he began by discussing what 2011 looks like through '80s-era glasses.

Thursday, he’ll join the A.V. Club’s Nathan Rabin to swap '80s trivia while discussing his new book. That event takes place at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Student Center East.
