Conservatives sweep Canadian elections

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper withstood a challenge from the left-wing New Democrat Party to win a majority government.

Canada held federal elections on Monday, the fourth in seven years. But there won’t be one for a while now. Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservative Party won the controlling majority it expected, however there were some big surprises for the left wing.

Lubamyr Lucuik, a professor of political geography in the politics and economics department of the Royal Military College of Canada, discusses the significance of Canada's election results.
