‘TV Serrana’ film school trains campesino youth in Cuba

For the first time in the U.S., TV Serrana is showing 21 documentaries at 13 universities.

TV Serrana is a community media project in the Seirra Maestra Mountains of Cuba. It trains people in video production so they can tell the stories of their communities and culture. In the 17 years since its founding, TV Serrana has produced 500 documentaries.

Carlos Rodriguez is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and the director of TV Serrana. Alexandra Halkin is a documentary filmmaker and the founding director of the Americas Media Initiative, which sponsored Carlos on his first trip to the United States. They join us to discuss filmmaking in Cuba.
