Chicagoan Brenda Russell ran her first marathon at age 50 in Finland.

There were many first-timers among the tens of thousands of runners who took part in Sunday's Chicago Marathon. Chicago attorney Brenda Russell knew what that was like: She did her first–-and so far, only–-marathon just last year. For Russell, it was a bit of a present to herself for her 50th birthday. And, it was quite the adventure too--it took her to the other side of the globe. Eight Forty-Eight’s Richard Steele recently sat down with Russell to talk about it. She began by explaining how she decided to welcome in her half-century mark with this 26-plus mile endurance feat.
