The 2007 municipal elections may be a turning point in the city council's relationship with the mayor.
And indeed, there are enough self-proclaimed independents to fill the old Bridgeport wheeling-and-dealing bar Schaller's Pump several times over.
Many are mounting fierce campaigns against incumbents, and it's made for some classic Chicago-style political theatre.
