Cole Porter was one of the geniuses of American music. His lyrics were at once sweet, sophisticated and even a little risqué.
But the native of Peru, Ind., which lies about halfway between South Bend and Indianapolis, was at his most clever when he was writing what came to be known as "list" songs.
List songs compare and contrast the subject of the song with famous places, celebrities, historical events and pop culture references.
A presentation about Cole Porter and his list songs will be featured during a multimedia presentation at Chicago’s Maxim’s Dec. 7 at 3:00 p.m.
