Author Jonathan Alter writes about Obama’s first year in office in 'The Promise: President Obama, Year One.'

A look to President Obama's even temperament and management skills can offer some hints on how he’s navigated the country through a prolonged economic crisis, an overhaul of the American health care system and endless political battles. At least that’s what Jonathan Alter thinks.

Last July "Eight Forty-Eight" spoke to the Chicago native about his book  "The Promise: President Obama, Year One;" it's comes out in paperback Tuesday. A long-time reporter and editor at Newsweek, Alter says there are still things about Obama that come as a surprise.
