Strong human bonds are often formed through rituals or ceremonies that solidify community ties and help people meet the challenges of everyday life. For many immigrants from India, the centuries-old tradition of raksha bandhan renews ties of kinship and reciprocity, reminding them of responsibility for the other's well-being. Filipino immigrants unite around annual public ceremonies honoring national hero José Rizal, reaffirming their commitment to his ideals and their land of origin.
