It doesn’t seem right to call Sara Lee a Bimbo but that’s exactly what the company will become next year.
Grupo Bimbo Tuesday agreed to buy the North American fresh bakery unit of Sara Lee, based in Downer’s Grove. This is not the Mexican company’s first foray into the American market: Bimbo makes Entenmann’s cakes and Thomas' English Muffins.
And it’s not the only foreign company that’s scooping up American businesses. So, how much of a trend is it really? And how much do these acquisitions affect brands and our economy? Alison Cuddy spoke to Eight Forty-Eight business contributor David Greising. Greising is also a reporter for the Chicago News Cooperative.
