Last week, Anida Yoeu Ali talked with us about art and Muslim identity, and she read her poem, "1700%" for our Islamic Reform series. The poem is one facet of her multi-media 1700% Project. It takes its name from the dramatic increase in hate crimes against Arabs, Muslims and people mistaken for those groups following the September 11th attacks.
Anida's 1700% Project installation at the School of the Art Institute was vandalized on Tuesday 5/11. Anida tells us more, and how her next event, 1700% Project: Transform Defacement Into Defiance, will respond to the vandalism.
