Nikki Giovanni is a world-renowned poet, writer, commentator, activist and educator.
Gwendolyn Brooks' s "We Real Cool," is one of Nikki Giovanni’s picks in her new book "The 100 Best African American Poems."
The anthology also includes poems by Amiri Baraka, Audre Lorde and Tupac Shakur and a CD provides a supplemental listening experience.
List-making seems like a favorite human pastime but when Giovanni recently spoke with WBEZ’s Richard Steele, she admitted how difficult a task she’d taken on. Hence the book’s subtitle, "But I cheated."
