If you were with us on Wednesday, July 25th, you witnessed an intensely intimate reading by Emily White from her new book You Will Make Money in Your Sleep. In it, White tells the late-Nineties story of Dana Giacchetto, a money manager for some of Hollywood's biggest stars (Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow to name just two), who eventually wound up in jail for defrauding clients out of millions.

During the reading, White emphasized aspects of her personal involvement with Giaccetto over the nitty-gritty details of his overall crimes and misdemeanors. Recounting their first meetings, leading to an eventual fear of being physically harmed by him, she described the messy unraveling of their friendship during the writing of the book. White and her husband had considered Giacchetto a close friend for years, yet were among those he bilked. The story is one of celebrity, greed and scandalous decadence at the end of the 20th century.
