On November 20th Mexico will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. The armed struggle began with an with an uprising led by Francisco Madero. The University of Chicago’s Emilio Kourí tells us how Madero’s peasant-supported revolt against the dictator Porfirio Díaz triggered a ten-year-long armed struggle and the eventual formation of the PRI, the political party which dominated Mexico until 2000.
