Gene’s organization provides a safe home for animals in need of rescue on sustainable farms in New York and California.

Gene Baur was hailed by Time magazine as “the conscience of the food movement.” Gene is president and co-founder of the group Farm Sanctuary and author of Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food. He’s here this week to participate in the 2011 Chicago Walk for Farm Animals. Along with Nancy Flood, Chicago coordinator for Farm Sanctuary, he joins us to talk about our relationship with food. Also, two teachers union officials in Bahrain were arrested and await trial for exercising free speech. Beth Ann Toupin of Amnesty International - USA explains their case. And David Safran, a local singer/songwriter, discusses an upcoming concert in Chicago to celebrate Amnesty International's 50th anniversary.
