Each month promises to be different and something not to miss—with discounted tickets for WBEZ members.
Of all of life’s big questions, “What do you believe?” is one of the most important. And for many, the answer may be one of the hardest to actually put into words. By asking individuals to write and share their personal philosophies, This I Believe hopes to encourage people to express the core principles that guide their daily lives, and to develop acceptance of—and even respect for—beliefs different from one’s own.
Join us for a special exploration of personal belief with public radio host Bob Edwards and Dan Gediman, Executive Director of This I Believe. Hear audio excerpts from Edward R. Murrow’s original 1950s series as well as live readings by local essayists who have contributed to this amazing collection. Learn more about the history of the project and the thinking behind the contemporary essays shared on stage, as Bob Edwards sits down with each essayist to talk more about their own personal philosophy.
CONTRIBUTE: If you would like to contribute your own essay to This I Believe, explore these guidelines for more information, and then be sure to submit by Friday, November 5 to be entered to win a pair of tickets to this event. Select entries will also be published on wbez.org!
This I Believe is an international project engaging people in writing and sharing essays describing the core values that guide their daily lives. More than 90,000 of these essays, written by people from all walks of life, have now been collected: archived online, heard on public radio, chronicled through books, and featured in weekly podcasts. This I Believe is pleased to have support from Kellogg's Corn Flakes®. Throughout 2010, Kellogg is helping to launch exciting new initiatives to encourage elder Americans to share their statements of belief.
$10/students (with valid ID) and seniors (60 and over)
