This event will be recorded for WBEZ’s Chicago Amplified.

In preparation for the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University’s presentation of AXIS Dance Company on November 19–20, this panel discussion explores the state of training and performance for physically integrated dance—dance that includes both dancers with and without physical disabilities. The panel will address:

  • The history of physically integrated dance in Chicago
  • The training available for young dancers
  • Barriers that dancers with disabilities face in the profession
  • Best practices for physically integrated dance training
  • Critical assessment of physically integrated performances
  • Training of educators and choreographers on incorporating dancers with disabilities into work
  • Preparing audiences to appreciate the art form
