This event will be recorded for WBEZ’s Chicago Amplified.

In partnership with the North Shore Chavurah of Rabbis, Spertus is proud to again co-sponsor Kallah, a series of free lectures and courses that take place on Chicago’s North Shore on consecutive Tuesday evenings in February.

Each evening is comprised of two hour-long programs with a 15-minute break between them. You are welcome to come to one or both sessions each Tuesday evening.

Session one takes place 7–8 p.m. and offers a selection of small-group courses, each running over the three consecutive weeks, taught by area rabbis. The schedule for these courses will be available from Temple Jeremiah.

A dessert and coffee break takes place 8–8:15 p.m.

Session two takes place 8:15–9:15 p.m. and offers large-group lectures to the entire Kallah presented by esteemed members of the Spertus faculty. Session two focuses on the theme of "Crossing Borders/Building Bridges."

At this session, Dr. Rachel Havrelock speaks on "Biblical Israel in Modern Israel." How does modern Israel resemble ancient Israel? Does the territory match up? Are the political systems similar? By looking at the books of Joshua and Judges and discussing the challenges facing Israel today, we build a bridge from the past to the present.

This lecture is free to attend, but registration is required. Call 847-441-5760 x110 for information.
