A pack of dogs check one another out at Montrose dog beach.

The Great Lakes shoreline is quite the site to see. In the summer, sailors, volleyball players and sun worshippers all flock to the beaches of Lake Michigan to shake off the Midwest winter. But perhaps no one enjoys the sand and surf as much as the city’s cooped-up canines.

For Front and Center, WBEZ's regional series on water, WBEZ's Jennifer Brandel provided an audio postcard.

Over the next several weeks the series will be examining critical issues centered on water, and exploring ways the lakes are part our lives.
