Take a Chicago helicopter ride

May 19, 2008

In TechCrunch this morning, there's an interesting post about our local TV station, WFLD, launching a new web feature called "Air Fox Live". It's a pretty cool site (and a totally awesome over-the-top Fox name) - basically an online traffic helicopter mashup. They're tracking their chopper with a GPS and displaying the location via a Google map and streaming the live video when it's in the air (thus, the site is only really active during morning and afternoon drive times). TechCrunch describes it perfectly as "uniquely informative eye candy". A nifty experiment to say the least (and a go-to place for future OJ Simpson low speed chases). Who's up for year-long pledge drives so we can have a traffic chopper too? We could get Abby Ryan to pilot, and then Lisa Labuz could say, "let's get the latest in traffic from the the WBEZ Traffic Chopper Strike Force!" Anybody? anybody?... no? sigh...
