The city of Chicago is considering a new cargo facility at O'Hare International Airport that officials say would create 1,200 permanent jobs.

Under the plan, the city would enter a lease agreement with Aero Chicago LLC to develop the Northeast Cargo Center at O'Hare. The facility would add to O'Hare's existing cargo operations.

The almost $200 million project would be paid for with $130 million in private funding and $62 million from the airport.

The City Council's Committee on Aviation on Wednesday signed off on the plan to build the facility. The full council is expected to consider the deal later this month.

The cargo facility would be built on 65 acres in three phases.
