Jury deliberations continue Friday morning in the William Balfour trial at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse.
Balfour is accused of killing actress Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew.
The jury deliberated for nearly eight hours on Thursday. It was the second day of deliberations. Jurors heard from dozens of witnesses in 11 days. Judge Charles Burns has sequestered them to an unknown location.
Hudson’s family was murdered in October 2008. Her mother Darnell Donerson, 57, and brother Jason Hudson, 29, were shot in their Chicago Englewood home. The seven-year-old nephew, Julian King, was killed in a Jason Hudson's stolen SUV.
Prosecutors say Balfour murdered his estranged wife’s family in a jealous rage. Several witnesses testified that they saw him with Jason Hudson's stolen .45-caliber gun - the one used in the muder. Julia Hudson, who was married to Balfour, testified that he threatened her and her family at least 25 times.
Defense attorneys say there’s a lack of physical evidence. No fingerprints or DNA at the crime scenes link back to the defendant. Balfour's attorneys also pin the murders on Jason Hudson's drug dealing.
Thursday was Balfour’s 31st birthday.
