Filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul makes films that are lush with images of nature and layered with moments and characters that represent the present and the past, this life and previous ones.To find out more about his approach, host Alison Cuddy spoke with Weerasethakul from his home in Thailand.

Tuesday marked the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War. Many think that the first real battle went down at Fort Sumter. But there were some critical court room skirmishes long before that.

Filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul was born in Thailand but his formative film education came about in the Windy City. He earned his MFA in experimental film at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Dave Rempis studied anthropology and ethnomusicology at Northwestern University in the '90s. And since then he’s been putting those academic chops to good musical use. Rempis is involved with multiple groups around the city – like The Vandermark Five and The Engines.
