A former East St. Louis police officer faces up to six months in prison now that he's admitted stealing a Rolex watch that federal agents planted in what he believed to be a stolen car.

Forty-year-old Larry Greenlee of Belleville pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis to theft of government property.

Authorities say Greenlee found the Rolex after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in September 2010. He didn't report it or turn it in.

Greenlee didn't know it was all an integrity test by federal agents, and that the car was rigged with hidden recording devices.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 21.
