From Indiana's icy roads to Sochi's ski slopes

Local photographer Guy Rhodes takes his camera and a bit of East Chicago moxie to the Olympics.

The Winter Olympics get underway today in Sochi, Russia. For most athletes, the Olympics are the pinnacle of their sport.

The same could be said for the journalists covering the games. Guy Rhodes lives in Northwest Indiana and is a freelance photographer who works with the Sun-Times Media Group.

Today he’s in Sochi to shoot the games for USA Today. WBEZ’s Michael Puente sat down with Rhodes before he left town to hear how he’s preparing for the games — and the threat of terrorism.

You can follow Guy Rhodes at the Winter Olympics and see all his photos on his blog.
