WHEATON, Ill. — A 40-month prison sentence has been handed a suburban Chicago woman who pleaded guilty to a charge of financial exploitation of an elderly person.

The Daily Herald in Arlington Heights reports Linda Cottrell of Justice admitted to stealing over a three-year span about $9,000 from four disabled men residing at Cupertino Home in Warrenville.

DuPage County Assistant State's Attorney Diane Michalak said Friday that Cottrell's job was to help the victims manage their finances. However, she used their ATM cards to drain their accounts and pay her own living expenses.

In sentencing Cottrell, Judge Kathryn Creswell called the woman' conduct unconscionable.

Cupertino Home caters to men with developmental disabilities.
