Interactive: City Council-approved Chicago Ward Map
Elliott Ramos | Jan. 19, 2012
Chicago aldermen Thursday voted to set new boundaries for the city's wards. A compromise map won support from 41 out of 50 aldermen, a lopsided enough vote to ensure there will not be a referendum where voters would pick between competing maps.

Just FYI:
Here's a breakdown of the demographics by race on this map.
Here's an amended ordinance submitted to the City Clerk.

Now looks like I will end up in the absurdity that we now call the second ward. A ward with no relation to any neighborhood or community and apparently with no Alderman since Fioretti was mapped out. So ironic that I moved to Wicker Park to live in a more diverse community and now find myself in one of the least diverse wards.
The new 23rd ward /13ward map is nuts! The park portion of Valley Forge Park is in the 23rd ward, but its field house is 13th!? Midway Airport is 23rd but the terminal is 13th!? What group of kindergardeners drew up this thing??
The zigzag design of some wards (like the 13th and 23rd) will be confusing when we need to report to the aldermen about neighborhood services. We are American citizens, not to be divided by race, creed, gender, etc. Yet, we are being divided by those very things to be "equal" ? This does not seem right .
When does this map take effect?
I'm glad my neighborhood, Fuller Park, stayed totally within Pat Dowell's 3rd Ward. Fuller Park has been in the 16th, the 11th and the 3rd Wards in the 55 years I've lived here, and I'm tired of being bounced around. Balcer, Cochran, and Thompson are do-nothings, and I've already been through that particular horror with Dorothy Tillman. Have the people who drew up this map ever heard of rectangles!?
I live at 161 E. Chicago Ave. That is just 1/2 block east of Michigan Ave. What Ward am I now in?
I am still a bit confused. I live at 360 E. Randolph. Will Alderman Reilly still be our Alderman or will be be voting on a different one
Well it's just another day in Chicago! "Take this, you'll be better off, we can assure you. That's why you voted us into office. To better serve you." Oh I forgot, "It's all about the children and families." Can't say anything around this city these days without that catch phrase. What a sad city we live in. Tragic.
we are now in the 2nd "ward", shaped more like a collection of Minnesota lakes than a neighborhood, I have to wonder what the process was that allowed this to happen? For some reason, our neighborhood always winds up an accessory to someone else's neighborhood, can anyone explain why this is?
Every resident, every precinct, every ward, and every district,is but a member of the whole Chicago. Unless every member of the whole body (Chicago) functions properly for the best interest of it,how can every other member of it not be adversely impacted? The citizens of Chicago must learn to interact, and function together as one body, for the best interest of all. Until such occurs,we'll continue meandering, devided, and self defeative. Chicago is but a member of the state of Illinois, and but another state of these unUnited States of America, and so on,and so on. When we bond together, for the best interest of all, instead of the special interest ot few, then and only then, will we move forward, and become the UNITED PEOPLE OF THE PRECINTS,OF THE WARDS,OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO,OF THE UNITED PEOPLE OF THE CITIES OF THE UNITED PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,THE UNITED PEOPLE,OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE UNITED PEOPLE OF A UNITED WORLD! Because my intent is not to single out any one citizen or representative our citizens. I'm charging all to look in the mirrow, and see yourself as you really are,and either continue doing as you have, if you are doing all you can to benefit us all. If whomever is not able,or unwilling to do what's best for us all,get it together,or allow someone willing and able to do the job, with the integrity, tempered with the honesty, needed to best serve all. What selfishness is this that prompts my asking others to exercise selfishness that causes us to execute it in a manner that benefits all. What manner of ignorant, self centered greed is this, that would have me think that you'd harken unto my plea?
This is the worst case secenario of dividing the ward maps. It should be a law against this division. The 20th ward stretches north entirely to far. To think you people spent 20 million dollars for such outrageous activity, is quite befuddling to me. What advantage do you have by crossing such ridiculous lines? You Aldermen need to get y'all act together. What is TIF PROGRAM is another questionable act.
The problem with this process is that it is political gerrmandering at it's best. And while people sitting adjacent to me at the meetings I attended complained about Aldermen, and wanted to replace them all, the "all" didn't include their own Alderman. Let's replace everyone except "my Alderman!" Until we all recognize that, as one speaker at the last meeting said, we are one citizen and the Aldermanic body is responsible to that one citizen, we won't change the politics of this city. We are all pretty selfish about our own districts and think we have the only "correct and true" representatives.
The 2nd ward should be in every textbook definition of gerrymandering.
This would make a challenging jig-saw puzzle.
Creating an interactive tool like this is a wonderful kind of reporting that allows citizens to figure out for themselves whether this map represents good government or simply politics as usual. The reporting and the interactive map present a dynamic snapshot of city government in action.
Everyone that is complaining on here - did you attend a hearing or meeting regarding the redistricting? If so, I commend you and keep it up. If you didn't - don't take an internet comment board to complain, attend your local political hearings. That might actually help to make a difference.
am I still on ward 12?
My address is 4201 S. Mozart St.

It's really a terrible map, and shows once again that our elected officials are much more concerned about preserving their own privileges than doing what's right for the city. Some of the wards are a complete joke, and my own neighborhood - Logan Square - has been chopped into about four parts. The majority black wards are all lower average population than the majority white and hispanic wards. It's all about preserving aldermanic privilege, and nothing about serving the citizens of the city, honoring neighborhood boundaries, or the concept of one-person, one-vote. It's just really shameful, especially the way it was pushed through city council before the map was even off the printing presses. Typical Chicago. Will it ever change?
A stupid map drawn and voted on by folks interested only in keeping their part time but highly compensated and influential posts. More reason to drop the ridiculously high number of wards and vote in some competent people to run them. What a freaking joke.
The 11th Ward's demographic info in the interactive map seems to be different than the numbers provided in the City Council's demographic numbers (in the pdf file). Which one is correct or is this another instance of them providing the wrong shape files to the public?
I used to live in the 44th ward right next to Wrigley. Now the line runs right down my street and I am in the 46th ward. Now I get the "joy" of dealing with drunken Cubs fans without any of the political say in how to manage them. Great.
Agreed Raechel. City services are more efficiently run that way saving tax dollars. This map was drawn around race. What a waste.
When these racial percentages are tallied do the figures reflect legal citizens or do they also include those who have chosen to disregard American law and make themselves our wards - wards of our wards - as it were ?
Straight to hell with this new map !
Goodbye Roberto Maldonado! With the inclusion of Austin in the 26th Ward, your days are NUMBERED, and we are going to ensure you are never elected to public office again.
CROOK!
I would love to see this map be a grid of squares. Special interests be darned. Lets behave like adults for once.
