Notre Dame football player remembers JFK's death canceling game

November 23, 2013

The day after President John F. Kennedy's assassination a rare thing happened: although it was a Saturday Notre Dame did not play football.

Many colleges canceled their football games that weekend in the wake of JFK’s death, but the Fighting Irish took the death of our nation’s first Catholic President particularly hard.

Jim Brocke, from Crown Point, Indiana was a junior offensive tackle on the 1963 Notre Dame team. He says they were relieved to get back to campus so they could mourn with the other students.
