Chicago Recycling Coalition President talks expansion
The Emanuel administration recently announced plans to expand its recycling program to include wards on the far north and far south sides. We discuss the city’s history-and struggles-with offering Chicago residents a comprehensive plan for recycling in all neighborhoods.
Electioneering in Cicero is double duty
With an election coming up in Cicero, many town employees are wearing multiple hats. They’re working for Cicero, and they’re working for the re-election of Town President Larry Dominick. Some say these folks are doing political work on their own time and of their own volition. Others say it’s all a bit too close for comfort. WBEZ’s Chip Mitchell brings us the story.
Lincoln to sweep the awards?
This Sunday Abraham Lincoln might just add to his already ample resume by sweeping the Oscars: Steven Spielberg’s film about the president is up for 12 awards. And it’s not just the movies – Lincoln’s been all over pop culture lately. Here in the Illinois we care a lot about Honest Abe. But are our intentions sincere? WBEZ’s Alison Cuddy reports.
Oscars preview with
Cinema’s best and brightest, at least according to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will be recognized Sunday night. And while the Oscars have increased the number of entrants in some categories, there hasn’t been a new category in more than a decade. Flavorwire Film Editor Jason Bailey came up with a list of categories he’d like to see and joins us to explain them.
