Democracy's global slump
Throughout history, the middle class hasbeen seen as an agent of global change. But how true is that? Even withthe Arab Spring movements of the last couple of years, many leading indicatorssuggest that democracy is in fact experiencing a global decline, with the at least tacit approval of the global middleclass. Joshua Kurlantzick, author ofthe new book Democracy in Retreat, explains why.
