Global Activism: An Update on the Angola University Project
Every Thursday on our Global Activism
series, we hear about an individual who's decided to work to make the world a better place. This week, we catch up with Guerra Freitas, Founder of Share Circle. Guerra's organization is developing the first university in Kuito, Angola, Guerra's hometown.
Angola's 27 year-long civil war ended in 2002. It's estimated that half-a-million people were killed. Hundreds of thousands were internally displaced and the country's infrastructure was ravaged.
Guerra Freitas is originally from the city of Kuito, Angola. He survived a nine month siege on his city but many of his family members did not.
He left Angola and when he came to Chicago he founded ShareCircle
. The organization is currently in the process of building a University in the war torn Bie Province.
We also talk with Joyce Hollingsworth, Director of Programs and Planning for the Angola University Project.
