Launching this season's lecture series Rethinking Modernism, which explores the impact of the "modern" on contemporary art and thought, renowned scholar T. J. Clark of the University of California at Berkeley looks at the period when Pissarro and Cézanne painted side by side, before differences emerged that constituted a decisive parting of the ways within modernism.
