President Barack Obama compromises for the unemployed

December 8, 2010

While a hallmark of President Obama’s administration has been transforming public education, lately his primary focus has been economic reforms. This week President Obama pitched a bipartisan deal aimed at bolstering the economy. In exchange for a temporary extension of tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, unemployment benefits will be extended for another 13 months.

Help for the unemployed couldn’t come at a better time, according to Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke. Bernanke appeared on "60 Minutes" Sunday after last week’s grim report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. So, how is unemployment affecting local residents?

To find out, "Eight Forty-Eight" spoke to regular business contributor and reporter for the Chicago News CoOperative, David Greising.
