My friend and "Sound Opinions" colleague over at the Tribune has been the first out of the gate to report Lollapalooza's headliners every year since it came to Chicago as a reinvented "destination festival"--one with a long-term, tax- and competition-free deal for Grant Park through 2018 negotiated in part by Mayor Daley's nephew, Mark Vanecko, and with ties that are even cozier to mayoral frontrunner Rahm Emanuel--and he has done it again for 2011.
According to Kot, three of the six headliners are misogynist, homophobic rapper Eminem, modern-rock radio panderers the Foo Fighters, and Queen wannabes Muse.
For anyone who cares. Meanwhile, this reporter still is waiting for the Emanuel campaign to respond to questions about the $141,000 in donations the candidate accepted from employees at Lollapalooza co-owners William Morris Endeavor, the contributions he took from the top two executives at Ticketmaster/Live Nation, and his positions in the face of such ties on independent music in Chicago.
