Tuition could go up again for students at the University of Illinois. Starting this fall, students at the U of I could pay an extra 6.9 percent on their tuition. That's if the Board of Trustees vote in favor of the increase.
If approved, new in-state students at the Urbana-Champaign campus would pay $11,104 a year. Students who are Illinois residents would pay $9,764 at the Chicago campus, and Springfield students, $8,670 a year. The amounts don't include fees or room and board.
A University spokesman calls the increase a conservative proposal that keeps in mind the concerns of families and the financial needs of the school.
The board raised tuition last year by 9.5 percent.
Trustees are scheduled to vote on the measure tomorrow.
