The City of Chicago has named a street after one of its most famous residents – Oprah Winfrey.
Mayor Richard Daley unveiled the honorary Oprah Winfrey Way in front of her Harpo studios in the West Loop. "That’s better than an Oscar," Winfrey said.
When she first came to Chicago in the 1980s, Winfrey wasn’t sure if she was going to get the television job. She had a plan B and thought, "I’ll move into advertising in order to just be able live in the city, which truly is the greatest city in the world."
She credits Chicago for her success.
"A little colored girl born Kosciusko, Mississippi on a red dirt road ends up with my name on a street," Winfrey said.
Then she turned around in her designer Christian Louboutin shoes and went back to work.
