The push for civil unions and same-sex marriage has opened up debate about who can be married in the U.S. But there is another issue at play on the marriage topic: who is actually doing it and who is skipping it altogether. Marriage rates vary, depending on things like education and income levels. Ralph Richard Banks is especially interested in how race affects marriage rates. Banks is the author of Is Marriage for White People: How the African American Marriage Decline Affects Everyone.
