Chicago arts on hold during NATO, G-8 summits
When world leaders gather in Chicago for the G-8 and NATO summits, classical-music goers won't be in the thick of it anymore.
“There could be traffic issues,” says Rachelle Roe, the director of public relations. "Public transportation could be affected. There might be road closures. And Symphony Center is right in the heart of the Loop, and it seemed like the prudent thing to do to just take care of it now and to be proactive about it.”
The concerts will still take place at the Symphony Center. Roe says the CSO is moving them to different days up to a week or two away to make it easier for both patrons and musicians to get there.
The Art Institute of Chicago moved the public opening of a major exhibition for similar reasons, a spokesperson says. The Roy Lichtenstein retrospective will now begin a week earlier.
