Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is calling for the immediate firing of a public schools official over allegations that she received pricey gifts from vendors.
In a statement Saturday, Emanuel urged the Board of Education to comply with the recommendation of Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard to fire the director of nutrition support services for the district.
Emanuel didn't name the official. But the Chicago Tribune cited an inspector general's report in identifying her as Louise Esaian in stories on Saturday.
The inspector general says Esaian and two members of her staff have gotten gifts worth at least $86,000 from two food companies who do business with the district since 2007 in violation of the ethics code.
The gifts include an estimated $20,000 in Green Bay Packers tickets and concessions.
