A century-old Galesburg building has been reduced to a pile of debris by a massive fire.
WGIL Radio reports that Galesburg firefighters took about two hours to get the fire under control at the former Hawkinson Manufacturing facility Tuesday.
Fire Chief Tom Simkins says it was obvious within a few minutes that the three-level building would be a total loss. He says a contractor may have to come in to remove all of the building's rubble.
Simkins says one firefighter was hurt when he fell off a ladder. He was taken to Galesburg Cottage Hospital after suffering a broken collar bone and possibly a concussion.
Hawkinson Manufacturing made doors, frames and other items until its closure.
