Members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot are currently on trial on charges of religious hooliganism. The band’s troubles highlight the increasing political power of the Russian Orthodox Church, which has gained influence and access to Russia’s most powerful politicians, including President Vladimir Putin.

The gunman who killed six people at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin before being shot to death by police was identified Monday as a 40-year-old Army veteran and former leader of a white supremacist heavy metal band.
