The Neighborhood Writing Alliance presents an evening of powerful readings and visual presentations. Listen in to this celebration of dynamic movement, creative community, and personal stories from neighborhoods throughout Chicago.
Presenters include Pennie Brinson, Baba Tony Brown, Debra Brown, Kucha Brownlee, Helena Marie Carnes-Jeffries, Robert Hare, Alfred Klinger, Allen McNair, Jeanette Moton, David Nekimken, Donna Pecore, Tinamaria Penn, Phyllis Roker, Delores Tolliver, and Sharon Warner.
Under the direction of Zahra Baker, the writers share their works in an arrangement that overlaps the readings to create intriguing juxtapositions. The performance includes pieces that are both witty and deeply moving meditations on physical experience and the ways we interpret those experiences, emphasizing the tension between what we can control (breath, diet, exercise, our vote) and what we cannot (systemic structures, political campaign coverage, anxiety, mental illness, cancer, aging).
