For Front and Center, Michigan Radio’s Jenn White hosted a one-hour show on June 13 exploring the ways in which low-literacy can affect an American’s civic participation. Guests discussed how the literacy test for voting historically kept blacks from getting involved in the electoral process, what are the social implications for our society when a sizable portion of the population is low-literate, and whether it’s time to look at literacy in a new way.
