Alderman wants a review of current legislation on dog licenses

January 19, 2012

Chicago Ald. Bob Fioretti wants to re-evaluate the city's policy on owning dogs after some recent dog attacks.

Fioretti said he is thinking of forcing negligent dog owners to get licenses. He said many owners don't follow the current law.

"With only about 27,000 out of a half a million dogs you know licensed in the city of Chicago, we have a problem of order, a problem of understanding what the law is - maybe it's too complicated - and we've gotta find ways to strengthen Chicago's rules and regulations," Fioretti said.

Currently, dog owners in the city are required to license their dogs.

Fioretti has called on some City Council committees to meet to discuss new regulations for dog owners.
